    Notes:

At the time of her marriage, Sarah lived in the precincts of the Cathedral at Canterbury. Soon after Thomas' baptism, the Cushman family disappears from the Canterbury records. At this time, it is surmised that Robert and his family joined the Reverend John Robinson's Puritan colony in Holland. Their marriage record reads "Robert Cushman vnto Sara Reder dwelling with in Pr'cinct's of Christchurche" [the Cathedral] They were married before Andries Hasperson van Vesanevelt and Jacob Paedts, Sheriggs, this fifth of June 1617".

He came to the Plymouth colony on board the Fortune in late November 1621. "One of the leading passengers on board the Fortune was Robert Cushman, accompanied by his son Thomas. Thomas in later life would become the church Elder for the Colony. Robert Cushman had been the London agent for Leiden and in 1620 was involved in Mayflower and Speedwell voyage preparations. In 1620 Cushman had negotiated a Mayflower(financial support) contract with the Merchant Adventurers that Bradford and others of the Leiden contingent refused to approve at Southampton with the Leideners saying the contract was all in the Adventurers favor and to the settlers detriment. Cushman’s purpose of coming to Plymouth was to convince the Plymouth settlers to finally approve this agreement that had been unsigned for over a year. Governor Bradford knew that, so far, the Adventurers had nothing to show for their investment, and after assurance from Cushman that Weston could be counted on to be trusted, Bradford and the others signed the agreement that Cushman had brought from the Merchant Adventurers." Notes:

Isaac Allerton was born in England about 1583-1586, but his parentage has not been identified. He may be related to Mayflower passenger John Allerton, but no relationship between them has been documented. Isaac Allerton is found in several Leyden records, and his sister Sarah married Degory Priest there on the same day as Issac's marriage to Mary Norris. A John Allerton and a Robert Allerton can also be found in Leyden records. On 18 June 1618 in Leyden, Isaac Allerton, tailor, made a sworn statement for Nicholas Claverly, witnessed by Degory Priest. On 9 January 1619, Isaac Allerton made agreement with Alice Gallant, widow of John Hooke and current wife of Henry Gallant, to apprentice her twelve-year old son John Hooke to Isaac Allerton, to learn the tailor trade. John Hooke came with Isaac on the Mayflower, but died the first winter. William Bradford, c1650, included in his passenger list of the Mayflower: "Mr Isaack Allerton, and Mary his wife; with .3. children Bartholomew, Remember, and Mary. and a servant boy, John Hooke." He later wrote " Mr. Allerton his wife died with the first, and his servant John Hooke. His son Bartle is married in England but I know not how many children he hath. His daughter Remember is married at Salem and hath three or four children living. And his daughter Mary is married here and hath four children. Himself married again with the daughter of Mr. Brewster and hath one son living by her, but she is long since dead. And he is married again and hath left this place long ago. So I account his increase to be eight, besides his sons in England." On September 26, 1636 Isaac made a deposition in Boston stating he was aged about 53 years. Isaac Allerton has a relatively small number of descendants compared to other Mayflower passengers, but is an ancestor to Presidents Zachary Taylor and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Isaac married NORRIS, Mary MAYFLOWER on 4 Nov 1611 in Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. Mary was born about 1591 in Newbury, England; died on 25 Feb 1620/1 in Plymouth, MA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

While in Leiden, Francis and Hester were members of the Walloon church. In 1606, they left Leiden briefly for Norwich, England, where they joined another Walloon church, returning to Leiden in 1607, possibly for religious reasons. Between 1611 and 1618, the Cookes were members of the Pilgrim Separatist congregation in Leiden. The Pilgrim church was not established in Leiden until 1609, so Francis was living there long before their arrival and must have met up with and joined them afterwards. The two ships began the voyage on August 5, 1620, but the Speedwell "leaked badly" and had to return to Dartmouth to be refitted at great expense and time. On the second attempt, the two ships sailed about 100 leagues beyond Land's End in Cornwall, but the Speedwell was again found to be leaky. Both vessels returned to Plymouth where the Speedwell was sold. It would later be revealed that there was in fact nothing wrong with the ship. The crew had sabotaged it in order to escape the year long commitment of their contract. Eleven people from the Speedwell (including Francis and John Cooke) boarded the Mayflower, leaving 20 people (including Robert Cushman and Philippe de Lannoy) to return to London while a combined company of 103 continued the voyage. For a third time, the Mayflower "headed for the New World". She left Plymouth on September 6, 1620 and entered Cape Cod Harbor on November 11, 1620. The Fortune eventually followed, arriving at Plymouth Colony one year later on November 9, 1621.
