- Enlisted in Company A, Illinois 108th Infantry Regiment on 28 Aug 1862. Mustered out on 28 Jul 1865. A Corporal. He has a Civil War Pension Index as an invalid. He was probably wounded.
According to the 1870 Federal Census he was a carriage maker.

According to the 1870/1880 Federal Censuses he was a carriage maker.
It is not proven that he is the son of Thomas and Lucy A. Tremaine Puffer, but it is the only family in the time period and place.
