  Civil War Soldier, US Army, Pvt. Enlisted 28 Jul 1862, joined Co E 103 Inf OH Vol US Army 16 Sep 1862 with his brother Henry, promoted to full Corporal 29 Dec 1862. His name is listed on the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument Public Square Cleveland, OH panel #14. His brother Henry is also listed along side Jabez. Died from being wounded in the right lung 14 May 1864 in the Battle of Resaca, Georgia. His mother Adeline was awarded his pension Jun 1890 in Waupaca County, Wisconsin.
