    He came with his parents to Battle Creek, MI when 3 years old, and lived on a farm in Bedford township three years, then removed to the farm in Pennfield, MI, where he still lives. He was educated in the public schools and in Battle Creek College. He has been supervisor of Pennfield 11 years; is a member of the Methodist Protestant Church, a trustee and superintendent of the Sunday School; member of the Knights of Maccabees of the World. He was elected County Road Commissioner April 5, 1915, by a majority of 2,377, the largest vote ever given a candidate in the county. The term of office is six years.
    "Mr. Puffer was the first member of the board of supervisors to introduce a resolution providing for a good roads commission in Calhoun County. As a member of the board he established a reputation for honesty and square dealing enjoyed by few men in public life and has been endorsed by a majority of the Democratic members of that body. He has shown a spirit of fairness upon all questions affecting equally the interests of both country and the city districts."

    Notes:

    He died when a large boulder he was burying fell upon him and crushed him. He removed early in life to N. Adams, MA, and thence to Steuben County, NY. At the age of 20 years he went to California in 1849, and again at the age of 23 by way of the Isthmus of Panama. In 1859 he made a trip to Pike's Peak, CO.

    He enlisted at Canedea, NY on 13 Sept, 1864, in Company B, 189th NY Infantry Regt. and was discharged May 31, 1865 at Washington, DC. He then moved to MI and lived four years in Bulford township, Calhoun Co., near the city of Battle Creek, afterward moving to a farm in Pennfield in the same county. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

    He was wounded during the Civil War.
