  In the Abenaki Indian massacre in 1689 in Dover, NH, many of t he Otis family were killed. One of the Otis granddaughters, in the 4th g eneration, Mary Otis, was also taken in that Indian attack and sold to t he French. How she returned to marry Ebenezer Varney is still a mystery .
