      He piloted 50 combat missions out of Southern Italy in 1944, in a B-24 Liberator. While based in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict, he flew 21 combat missions and earned more than 5,000 total flying hours during his career. He retired in 1964 with more than 20 years of active duty.
