  According to the 1920 Federal Census, he was living in Placer County, CA, was married, and a machinist's helper in a garage. He was an inmate in San Quentin Prison in 1930 for murder. He suspected the man he murdered (Henry A. Howcroft) was attentive to his then wife. He served several years there. He was released and became involved in an arson case in Nevada City, when he said he was approached by a beauty parlor owner to burn her rooming house down. He was divorced at this time and was a 'Room Finder" in the New Prison. According to the 1940 Federal Census, he is living in Grass Valley, CA in 1940 with wife, Jean. He is a laborer on the RR.
