Civil War Veteran, enlisted in Company E of the Eighth IL Inf. Regt. Vols. and served from July 18 1861, to July 1865. He fought at the Battle of Shiloh.
His Bible was returned to his mother by a Confederate Soldier who found it on the Battleground at Shiloh. He mustered out on 30 Jul 1864.
He was appointed Postmaster for Odell, Illinois by President McKinley. There is an archive of letters between him and his sister Ann Adelaide from the Civil War that were mentioned in a book in the Chicago Historical Society.
He was a joiner by trade.
