ALEXANDER McKAUGHAN: the first we found him was in Breckenridge County, K entucky in 1840. Fr om his age on the census, and his children's ages, i t looks like he could have been between H ugh and Forrester. 1840 Breckenridge County census:
 ALEXANDER McKAUGHAN 1 male over 40 under 50 1 male over 10 under 15 1 male over 15 under 20 1 female over 40 under 50 
There could have been older children gone by this time. By 1850. Alexander McKaughan had started using the spelling of McCann. W e could not find an y McCann's around Stephensport today. There are ho wever many around Louisville, Kentucky. T he ones I called did not kno w their ancestory. One has been a Senator. At one time there was a McConn living 2 miles west of Versailes, Kentuc ky, on the McConn ferr y pike. We don't know where he fits in.

ARCHIBALD McKAUGHAN, JR.: born 1735, County Antrim, Ireland. He came to America with his parents in 1747, at the age of 12 years. They settled in Pennsylvania, believed to be Cumberland County. He married JANE MERCER, daughter of Moses and LaGrelda Forrester Mercer from Scotland to Pennsylvania. Little is known about Moses and LaGrelda after they came to America.
