Notes:
When a young man he removed to Spring Prairie, WI, and was one of the pioneers of that town. He followed farming for a time, and then engaged in the manufacture of boots and shoes at Spring Prairie, continuing in this business to the time of his death. He was a deacon of the Baptist Church of Spring Prairie, a town clerk, and justice of the peace at Warkworth.
His home was used as a stop in the Underground Railroad and hosted the first woman to make it to Canada via Wisconsin. Her name was Caroline Quarlls.
