    She is the daughter of Chenery Willis as shown in a news article in 1915. She was a student at National Park Seminary before her marriage. She married Robert Thomas Coover in 1915. However no other information can be found for her. She could be Loretta Jane Van Auken. Perhaps she was given up for adoption by the Puffers to be raised by the Van Aukens? Mr. Van Auken and Chenery Puffer spent the winter of 1915 "south", according to the news article. She left her husband 14 Dec 1915 and Robert T. Coover sued for divorce.     He prepared for college in Franklin Academy at Shelburne Falls, MA and was graduated from Rochester University in 1860. He engaged in educational work in the autumn following as principal of the public schools at Winchester, IL, and for many years was superintendent of schools of Scott County, IL. He read law and was admitted to the bar in IL in 1863. He was a student in the offices of Major N.M. Knapp and Henry Case. But instead of following his profession, he engaged in business and for many years was a prominent dealer in lumber. In 1888 he disposed of his business in IL and in 1891 bought a controlling interest in the Champion Drill Co. of Rochester, NY. Afterward he was interested in the Columbian Separator Co. and during the last years of his life he was connected with the Pfaudler Co. In religion he was a Baptist. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America; Yonnondio Lodge, Free Masons; Hamilton Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Monroe Commandery, Knights Templar, and the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. At Winchester he was Master of Winchester Lodge, Free Masons. He was president of the Winchester board of education.
    A Winchester paper said of him at the time of his death: "Here *** he was always one of the leading citizens, active in everything to promote the general good of the community and commanding the highest respect. * ** He was a quiet kindly man, little give to display in speech or manner, but he was thoroughly well informed and a pleasant conversationalist . *** He was a good man and he and his wife belonged to our best society, the family were all loved and respected while they were among us and the sincerest sympathy of all their old friends in Winchester goes out to the bereaved."

    Dr. Puffer attended the common schools in his youth at Dummerston, VT. H e learned the trade of clothier and at the age of 21 went to Three Rive rs, NY to teach school. He decided to study medicine and began under D r. Knapp of Dummerston. He then went to Harvard Medical School. He fi nally began the practice of his profession at Coleraine, MA. After som e years there, he located to Shelburne Falls, MA, where he practiced to t he time of his death in 1877, enjoying a large and lucrative practice a nd achieving great distinction in his work. He was a member of the Mas sachusetts Medical Society and president of the Franklin County Distric t Medical Society. He served on the school committee of the town many y ears and represented his district in the General Court in 1863. In pol itics he was a Whig in early life; later a Republican. He was a member o f the Baptist Church, one of the founders.
    He was universally respected and beloved in the community he served so f aithfully. Genial, considerate, generous, tactful, he served all class es equally well. He was tall, commanding in figure, attractive in face a nd features.
