He was an apprentice to William Diamond, a cooper. His step-father Hugh Allard detained Nicholas for his own services, and Mr. Diamond brought Allard to court over it.
In 1686 Nicholas bought 40 acres along Spruce Creek.
He was wounded in 1703 during the Casco massacre, where his mother and sister were killed.
From 1707 to 1714 he was a culler of fish and pipe staves.
His will of 1717 names his wife Jane, 3 children and 1 grandson.

He may have been a less than savory character as he was sued in 1665 for slander by a Thomas Westcott; fined as a "common swearer and drunkard ."
