Ichabod Tibbett's company of scouts on 24 May 1744 His sons Thomas, Samuel and Theodore were among those||on the Penobscot||petitioning for land grants there. Unsuccessful, they moved further east to Gouldsboro, taking up land not yet legally open to settlement

    Thomas Leighton or Layton came from England to Dover N.H. in 1633/34. He signed the "Combination in Dover" in 1641, He was Selectman for the years 1647, 1648 and 1658. The name Leighton or Layton occurs in the oldest records of English and Scottish History. It is of Saxon origin but was established in Scotland and England before the 14th Century.
