An article in The Vermont Tribune, Windsor County, VT states that at his mother Rosamond's death, he own a large sum of money to her (estate) in the sum of $3,000. It was unknown where Ryland was located, supposedly in Oregon. A man, Joel Stannard, gave an affidavit to confirm that debt to the executor of Rosamond's estate, Charles M. Gutterson, Esq., at this office in Ludlow, VT.
