Civil War soldier, enlisted in Co. G., 21st Regt. Mass. Vol. Inf. on July 19, 1861. Promoted to Sergeant; reinlisted Jan 1, 1864. He was wounded in the Battle of Spottsylvania/Wilderness in the leg. His leg was amputated and died a few days later, May 21, 1864 in the hospital. He was a carpenter by trade and before the war worked for his father.
He was originally buried at Maryes Heights, VA, reburied at Fredricksburg National Cemetery, VA

He resided at Ashby, Gardner, and for more than fifty years at Ashburnham. He was a carpenter, contractor and builder. He built many houses in Ashburnham, Gardner, Winchendon, Ashby and Leominster, the Congregational Church at Gardner and the Methodist Church at Ashburnham. He was active in the Methodist Church at Ashburnham and a leader in the raising of the building fund. He sold land in Gardner in 1838 to Walter Fairbanks (W.D. 337-282). He was for many years a manufacturer of sash and blinds.
