Charlotte Gilbert Puffer, Stella's mother-in-law, did not feel that Stella was an 'appropriate' mother for her three legitimate children: Georgia Alice (1888), Cady (1889 - my grandfather) and Julia (1891) and so Charlotte took them to her daughter Julia Puffer Olmstead in Wisconsin. The three children were raised by Charlotte and Julia and her husband George Olmstead.
