He was saved at Kurn am Rhine during an evangelistic meeting there. He also worked as a make-up man at local theaters. They met in Rendsburg when she wanted to learn English. He taught her while she was working as a house helper in his friends house. He moved to Wyk auf Fohr in 1909.
