- He had joined the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 103rd of Ohio and got a leave of absence to return to Conneaut, Ohio to marry Emily. Then he returned to the war and left his young bride Emily behind. Upon returning from the war he settled down with her. They were expecting their first child, but as cruel as fate can be, Emily died giving birth to their son Frank Puffer. Henry was devastated!
