  He was a legatee in the will of his uncle, John Puffer. He was a soldier in the Revolution in Capt. Abner Crane's company Feb 2, 1779, to May 4, 1779, on guard duty at Boston and in the Continental army from Stoughton, engaged May 23, 1781. He was a cordwainer by trade. "He served in the Revolutionary War as a guard (1779) in Boston when only 15 years of age. He was also in the Continental army from Stoughton, engaged May 23, 1781 (age 17 years)."
