- During WWII on December 11, 1942, Harry enlisted in the US Army Air Force and trained to be an airplane and engine mechanic. He was stationed in England and served as an Engineer and Gunner on a B-24 bomber.
Harry completed 32 bombing missions successfully. He was in the Normandy Campaign, the Northern France Campaign and Air Offensive Europe Campaign. He received several decorations and citations including the European-Middle-Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters. He also earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was separated from the service on October 31, 1945, having achieved the rank of T/Sgt (Technical Sgt).
