Notes - A farmer at Eylar, IL
It is noted in several newspaper articles that he was part of the 'underground railroad' and helped in the escape of one Caroline Quarrels, a 16 year old slave from St. Louis. She found her way to Milwaukee and then was smuggled to Pewankee and later to Prairieville (now Waukesha), WI. She was conducted to Sandwich, Canada by Mr. Lyman Goodnow, who established the "railroad" in that section. He paid to have her ferried across the Detroit River into Canada.
