Notes |
- CT The Comfort Starr House, located at 138 State St., Guilford, Connecticu t, is a classic saltbox house with an added leanto [1]. It is presumed t hat the original house was built between 1645 and 1646. The house deriv es its name from Comfort Starr who bought the house from the original b uilder, a Guilford signer (settler), Henry Kingsnorth, in 1694. C omfort Starr's ancestor was an English physician of the same name who l eft County Kent and settled in Cambridge, MA, where he was a f ounder of Harvard College. He is buried in King's Chapel Burying Ground i n Boston. A branch of the family settled in CT in the 17th cen tury.
The house is still in its primitive state. It is considered, by some, t o be the oldest wooden timber frame house still used as a private resid ence in the U.S. today
