Notes |
- WWII Veteran, US Navy, Fireman First Class
He was known as "Puffer Puffer" and was a semi-popular race car driver having entered the Indy 500 in 1952. He did not start the race. There was no record of Puffer even qualifying for the event, so there is some doubt if the driver was ever really on the starting grid.
He ran speed trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1950 and pushed his car, The City of Pasadena, to over 200 MPH before it went airborne and crashed. He survived with just cuts and bruises.
