    He was a barber and a hairdresser in England. He moved to England from Germany in 1904. He had plans to go to England before he met his wife. He was saved at Kurn am Rhine during an evangelistic meeting there. He also worked as a make-up man at local theaters. They met in Rendsburg when she wanted to learn English. He taught her while she was working as a house helper in his friends house. He moved to Wyk auf Fohr in 1909.
